My grandfather was a farmer in Arenac County, Michgian. He also served as the Standish Township Supervisor for many years. Devoted to his family, Grandpa was thrilled one year when he received a letter from a Rageot family historian. The information he received told the story of his mother's line as that hardy group made their way from France to Quebec to Tweed, Ontario, to Arenac County, Michigan. A varied group, in included royal notaries and magistrates, priests, farmers, teachers, lumbermen, doctors, carpenters and many more. Grandpa's enthusiasm was contagious, and I was hooked.
Since that time, I've been working at expanding the information we had while verifying with documents that can be found. Our tree is a large one. A partial list includes the families of LaClair, Rashotte, Jakubiec, Stadler, Bezenah, Perrou, Rossen, Burke, Howden, Beausoleil/Bosley, Fitzgerald, Goodell, Class, Rintoul, Kirby, Childs, Bourdow, Kelly, Covert and Batchelder. Most of these families have a direct connection through chance of birth, some through marriages, yet others through 'adopted' families and step-families, their closest familial bond through that of love alone.
We stretch across the continent from Quebec, Montreal, and Ontario to upper New York, mid-Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and beyond. Some of the major counties or cities heavily researched include Arenac, Standish, Bay, Pinconning, Bay City, Genesee, Mount Morris, Franklin, Clinton, Lanark, Kent, Hastings, Tweed, Lennox-Addington, Kaladar, Flinton, Arbo Township, Saginaw, Cohasset, and too many more to name. |
