1940
1940, May 17 - A very pleasant surprise was in store for Thomas LeClair, Sr., of Churubusco, last Saturday evening, May 11th. The occasion being his 78th birthday, a large number of friends and relatives gathered to wish him many happy returns of the day. Dancing was the chief entertainment of the evening and after midnight sandwiches, cake and coffee were served to the guests. A number of gifts and a purse of money was presented to Mr. LeClair.

1941, March 14 - ENLIST: Garth Joseph Lanktree, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lanktree, Chateaugay, and Gerald F. LeClair. son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. LeClair, of Churubusco, have enlisted in the regular army, and have been assigned to the 52 nd Signal Co., Albrook Field at Panama.

1942

1942, January 7 - A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Edmund’s church at 8 o'clock Monday morning Rev. O.A. Boyer performing the ceremony, when Miss Ula LeClair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli LeClair, was united in marriage to Lawrence Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith and Miss Lillian Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, was married to Ovid LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli LeClair. Mr. and Mrs. Smith's attendants were Lena Miller and Clarence Smith, and Theresa Trudell and Maynard LaClair attended Mr. and Mrs. LaClair. Both brides were becomingly attired in white satin gowns with trains and long bridal veils. Miss Miller wore a floor length gown of rose colored satin and Miss Trudell’s gown was of blue silk. A wedding breakfast was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Cook, the wedding dinner at Mr. and Mrs. Eli LaClair’s and supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith. A wedding dance at the Ellenburg Center Town Hall in the evening was enjoyed by a large number. They received many gifts, also money. The bridegrooms are both employed by Republic Steel Corporation. They will make their homes for the present at Eli LaClair’s.

1942, May 15 - Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeClair were happily surprised on receiving a cablegram from their son Gerald LeClair, who is now stationed at Arnuellrs, Panama. It was in the form of a mother's day greeting. The message was very gratifying to Mr. and Mrs. LeClair as they had not heard from Gerald in some time.

1942, July 17 - Mrs. Amos LaBombard was hostess at a miscellaneous shower given Saturday night, July 11th, for her daughter Helen in honor of her approaching marriage. The room was prettily decorated with blue pink and white crepe paper shadowed with green ferns. Many games were enjoyed by all the guests and a mock wedding was put up by a few of the friends. Refreshments were served after the opening of gifts which were plenty, useful and lovely. Fifty one guests were present, which are as follows: Bertha Malark, Doris Lashway, Amelia Laclair, Monica Lashway, Rose Alma Kette, Rita Lashway, Iris Smith, Rhada Leclair, Eleanor Magoon, Hilda Leclair, Frances Trombly, Donna Lashway, Mrs. Peter D. 1942, July 24 - Miss Helen Labombard, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Labombard, of Ellenburg Center, became the bride of Dewey LeClair son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair, of Chateaugay at a pretty wedding ceremony performed at St. Edmund's church at Ellenburg Wednesday morning, July 15th at 9 a.m. The Rev. O. A. Boyer performed the ceremony in the presence of many relatives and friends of the young couple. Miss Amelia Leclair, sister of the groom was bridesmaid, and Leonard Trombly, of Burke, cousin of the bride, was best man. The bride was dressed in a street length dress of light blue with white accessories and carried a boquet of red roses and a white prayer book; The bridesmaid wore a dress of pink with blue accessories and carried an old fashioned boquet. After the ceremony the bridal party went to the home of the bride where dinner was served for the newlyweds, their attendants and parents. The grandparents of the groom were also honored guests at the dinner. Supper was served at the home of the grooms parents. After the supper the bridal party left for the new Town Hall at Chateaugay and a wedding reception was held at which over 200 relatives and friends were present. They received many beautiful gifts including a purse of money. They left on a short honeymoon trip through Canada and on returning will reside at the home of the groom's parents.

1942, November 13 - Walter LeClair, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeClair, of Churubusco, has enlisted in the Air Corps Division of the U .S. Army on Wednesday, November 4th, and is now stationed at Camp Dix, N.J.

1942, November 13 - Mrs. Wallace Winter, of St. Regis Falls, spent the past week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeClair at Churubusco.

1943

1943 - Mrs. William LeClair spent a few days with her husband, PFC William J. LeClair, who is in the M.P.E.G at Fort Custis, Mich.

1943, July 14 - Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeClair, of Churubusco, announce the engagement of their daughter, Regina to Pvt. Walter Winters, who is at present stationed in a camp at Maryland. The marriage will take place soon in Washington, D. C, where Miss LeClair has been employed for several months.

1943, October 15 - At St. Edmund's chuch Monday morning, October 11th, occurred the marriage of Eva Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Labon Harris, of Chateaugay Lake, and Maynard LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli LeClair, Rev. Geoffrion officiating. The bride was attractive in a navy blue with pencil stripe. The bride's attendant Miss Doris Tromblee wore a tan suit. Gerald Miller acted as best man, both attendants being cousins of the groom. Following the wedding a breakfast was served the bridal party in Malone. The wedding dinner was at the .home of the groom's parents, The dance at Brainardsville in the evening. The bride's evening gown was of pale blue marquisette with a brocaded fitted bodice. The bridesmaid wore a gown of rose colored satin. The groom is employed by the Republic Steel Corp at Lyon Mountain. They will reside with his parents for the present.

1944, April - Chateaugay Personals: Mr. and Mrs. Francis Kinsman, of Griswoldville, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair, of Ellenburg Center, Mr. and Mrs. Ora D. Oakes, of West Bangor, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ikeler and daughter, of Malone, attended the funeral of Frank LeClair, Sr., in this village on Monday morning.

1945

1945, April 6 - Pvt. Bernard LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. LeClair is in a New Jersey Hospital recovering from injuries received while in active duty on the western front.

1945, May 4 - Pfc. Walter G. LeClair Serves As Armorer. With a 12th AAF B-25 Group in the Mediterranean Theatre—Pfc. Walter G. LeClair, 23, of Massena, who continues to serve as an armorer, is a member of a 12th Air Force Mitchell bomber group which is fighting over the Italian Alps in the greatest aerial campaign in the Mediterranean theatre; the Battle of the Brenner. Every day when the weather permits, this group plasters the key Brenner line targets, severing the Germany artery which has been supplying the enemy troops opposing the American 5th AArAmy (sic). Private LeClair was engaged in dairy farming in Churubusco before he entered the service November 5, 1942. He came overseas to join his present unit 16 months ago and now wears three battle stars on his theatre campaign ribbon. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. LeClair, live at 93 Andrew Street, Massena.

1945, August 17 - Among the service men who are home on furlough are: Onwald Kerov, Donald Douglas, Francis Mitchell, Edward LeClair. Harold LaFontaine, Delmar LeClair, James Tolosky, Donald Brennan, Lawrence LeJoie, Leonard Hart, Richard McCurry, Francis Rhinebald, Julius Spence.

1945, October 5 - Mrs. Eli LeClair has been quite ill for several days with rheumatic.

1946

1946, March 15 - Bernard LeClair has a position as telephone operator at Dannemora. He will take up his new duties soon.

1946, May 3 - Miss Bertha Malark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Malark and Herbert LeClair were united in marriage Tuesday at St. Edmond's Church. Rev. Lawrence Mallette officiated. They were attended by Sylvester LeClair, brother of the groom, and Joan Malark, sister of the bride. The newly weds are on a wedding trip to Buffalo.

1946, June 28 - Mr. and Mrs. Peter LaClair, of Ellenburg Center, have announced the approaching marriage of their daughter, Katherine, to Edward Zielinski, of Utica, The ceremony will be performed on Saturday at 11 a. m. at Holy Trinity Church, Lincoln Avenue, Utica, with a reception to follow at 5 p. m. at the American Legion Hall, 16 Hopper St.

1946, August 9 - $10,000 Fire Destroys Barn on Peter LeClair’s Farm Wednesday Evening. Damages estimated at $10,000 resulted from a fire that leveled the barns on the Peter LeClair Farm, Northeast of the village of Chateaugay, on Wednesday evening. The origin of the fire was still undetermined on Thursday morning, however, an investigation is being made by authorities . Flames were first seen seeping through the roof of the barn at about 9 P. M. A call for assistance was made and the local fire department responded with truck and equipment. The fire had gained such headway within a few minutes that all efforts were concentrated on saving the home and granary that were a short distance from the burning struc ture.Mr. LeClair was in the barn when the broke out in the loft. During the few minutes it took to release the few head of livestock housed in the barn, the entire top of the building was engulfed in flames. The barn was a new structure completed this summer and the season’s crop of hay and straw were stored there. Thirty five tons of hay and thirty tons of straw were totally destroyed. During the day, workmen had completed filling the barn with straw, the last load being brought in just a few hours before the fire started. Mr. LeClair stated Thursday morning that the total insurance on the barn was only $1,500 and the damage was approximately $10,000. This is the first major fire in the vicinity during the past year.

1946, August 23 - The barn on the P. D. LaClair farm at South Ellenburg was destroyed by fire last Wednesday.

1947

1947, February 14 - Mr. and Mrs. Herbert LaClair are parents of a baby daughter.

1947, May 9 - The engagement of Miss Lillian LeClair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William LeClair, of Churubusco, and Donald Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith, of Ellenburg, has been announced. The wedding will take place in the near future. Both Miss LeClair and Mr. Smith are employed at East Hampton, Mass., at present.

1947, November 7 - Churubusco - Mr. and Mrs. Elmer LaClair and son Robert have moved here from Chateaugay and are occupying John Silver's house.

1947, November 7 - Mr. and Mrs. Maynard LaClair are parents of a daughter (Edna Marie) born Monday, October 27.

1948

1948, June 3 - LaClair - At the Alice Hyde Hospital, Malone, on Wednesday, June 1, 1949, a. daughter to Mr. and Mrs. William LaClair of Ellenburg Center.

1948, December 3 - Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. LaClair and Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. LaClair were called to Utica last week by the death of the two and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman LaClair.

1949

1949, July 8 - Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Powers of Churubusco announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter Catherine Theresa to Donald Francis LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar LeClair of Ellenburg. The wedding will take place mid-summer.

1949, July 15 - Miss Catherine Powers, of Churubusco, was honored with a prenuptial shower at the home of Mrs. Edgar LaClair Wednesday evening. Miss Powers will be married to Donald LaClair in the near future.
