1950

1950, September 1 - Mr. and Mrs. Peter LaClair and mother, Mrs. Addie LaClair, with their daughter Helen and Veronica Charette, of Utica, motored to Troy to attend the wedding of Theresa LaClair, daughter at the late Israel LaClair.

1950, November 10 - Miss Georgia Avah Williamson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Rollie Williamson. of Ellenburg Center, and Walter LeClair, son of Mr and Mrs Edward LeClair, of Ellenburg Depot, were united in marriage on Saturday morning, November 4th, at 7 00 A M., at St. Edmund's Church. Ellenburg. Rev. Earl Taylor pastor, performed the double ring ceremony and said the nuptial Mass The bride wore a taupe suit with brown accessories and matching topcoat. Miss Cecile Bechard, maid of honor, wore a tan suit with taupe accessories and yellow topcoat. Kenneth LeClair. brother of the groom, was best man. The newlyweds departed on a honeymoon trip through New England. They will establish their home at Massena. Both attended Ellenburg Central School. For the past six years the bride has been employed by the Pal Blade Co. in Plattsburg. Mr. LeClair served five years in the U.S. Army and is now employed by G. L. F. at Massena.

1950, December 1 - A shower was held for Veronica Charette at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Charette on Monday evening. Miss Charette will be married to Harry LaClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. LaClair in the near future.

1950, December 8 - Miss Veronica Charette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Charette, and Harry LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. LeClair, were married at St. Edmund's Church Saturday morning, December 2nd. Rev. Earl Taylor performed the ceremony. Their attendants were Helen LeClair and Maurice Charette, brother and sister of the bride and groom. A dance was held in the Town Hall in the evening. They will reside in Utica.

1951

1951, March 23 - Obey LaClair, who for the past several years has operated his farm near Johnson City, has moved to the farm he recently purchased of Mrs. Ellsworth Tromblee, known as the Lewis Harvey farm. He also bought the Frazier farm just across the highway.

1951, July - The barn on the farm of Maynard Leclair was totally destroyed by fire Thursday morning. Fire Departments from the Center and Depot were on the scene, but arrived too late to extinguish the blaze, which was thought to have been started by electric motors.

1952

1952, December 5 - Maurice Harrigan and Miss Audrey LaClair were united in marriage at Churubusco on Wednesday.

1953

1953, November 18 - Joyce Jette and Sylvester LaClair, son of William LaClair, were married at Lyon Mountain Saturday noon, November 12th. Sixty seven guests had breakfast at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William LaClair. A reception in afternoon at the home of bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Benware and dance in evening at Center Tows Hall. Those present from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Bushnoe, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Pickering, Mr. and Mrs. David Pickering and Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Yelle, Syracuse.

1954

1954, February 26 - Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair Observe Fortieth Anniversary. On Tuesday a very happy event took place in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair it being the occasion of the 40th wedding anniversary of their marriage. Peter LeClair and Miss Elizabeth Richey were united in marriage on February 23, 1914, at St. Patrick's Church in this village, by the late Rev. E. G. Brice. On Tuesday morning an anniversary mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, by Rev. John R. Wiley in honor of the couple. All of their children were present. In the afternoon an Open House was held at their farm home northeast of this village and a large number of friends, relatives and neighbors gathered to extend congratulations on this happy event. Mr. and Mrs. LeClair were presented with a handsome television set a gift from their children. They also received a purse of money and many other beautiful gifts. A dinner was held at 6:00 o'clock. Mr. LeClair’s father, Thomas LeClair, of Churubusco, who is 93 years old was present, and also Rev. John R. Wiley and immediate relatives of the contracting parties. Later on a dance took place at the Grange Hall and was largely attended. Mr. and Mrs. LeClair have been lifelong residents of this town and are universally respected by all. They are parents of seven children: Mrs. Earl (Rose) Kette, Wingdale, N. Y.; Mrs. Alger (Eva) Furnia, Pawling; Mrs. Edward (Flora) Lapoint, Merrill; Mrs. Darwin (Amelia) Colburn, Chateaugay; Estie, Dewey and Wayne Leclair, Chateaugay. They have 19 grandchildren.

1954, August 27 - Eldon LaClair’s 7 year old son Gary fractured his arm while at play Saturday.

1955

1955, January 28 - Announcement is made of the engagement of Carol Ann LeClair, Utica, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman LeClair to Ross Poupore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Poupore, Churubusco. A June wedding is planned. The bride to be is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. LeClair and Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. LeClair. Mr. Poupore is a grandson of Mrs. Amelia Trombly.

1955, October 14 - Peru , October 8: A man and a woman lost their lives yesterday when an automobile in which they were riding and a truck collided at a highway intersection. Mrs. Goldie Marion Allen about 45, of Saranac, was killed. Donald Neddo LeClair, 22, of Dannemora, the driver, was injured fatally. A second passenger in the car, Mrs. Lillian Marion Hackett, of Saranac, was reported in serious condition at a hospital. William Henry Howard, of Hudson Falls, the truck driver, was injured slightly. Police said the accident occurred on Route 22B, a mile and a half north of this Clinton county village. Mr. LeClair was a son of Mrs. Florence (Burgoyne) Brassard of Dannemora, and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Neddo Burgoyne, of Chateaugay.

1956

1956, January 13 - Nyles Leclair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Leclair, returned to his studies at A. I. I., Canton, after spending the holidays with his parents .

1956, July 16 - Mrs. Eli LaClair is receiving treatment and surgery at CV Hospital.

1956, November 16 - About twenty relatives and friends attended the birthday party for Wilford Leclair November 2nd in observance of his 80th birthday. Refreshments were served and a lovely birthday cake presented to the guest of honor and Mr. Leclair received many gifts and cards.

1957

1957, April 26 - Mr. and Mrs. Peter D. LaClair, Ellenburg Center celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary last Sunday. The late Rev. P. E. Goulet married them at St. Edmund's Church at Ellenburg on April 21, 1907. The attendants were Mrs. Carrie Dougherty, Chateaugay, and the late William Doody, brother of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. LeClair are lifelong residents of Ellenburg and retired farmers. Eleven children were born to the couple. There are five daughters: Mrs. Israel (Muriel) LeClair, Churubusco; Mrs. Leonard (Delia) Trombly, Malone: Mrs. Eldon (Eleanor) Trombly, Mrs. Claude (Raida) Magoon and Mrs. Louis (Hilda) Duffina, all of Ellenburg Center. Six sons: Erving, Austin and Bernard LeClair, Rochester; Norman and Eugene LeClair, Utica; and Eldon, Ellenburg Center. There are sixty grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. LeClair renewed their vows at a solemn High Mass Sunday morning at St. Edmund's Church at Ellenburg. A luncheon for the family was held at their home followed by open house for relatives and friends the remainder of the day.

1957, May 16 - Washington, D. C. was the honeymoon destination of Theodore Alexander LeClair and his bride, the former Marilyn Anne Lasher, whose marriage took place Saturday morning at St. Philomena’s Churubusco. The date was April 27th. The Rev. E. Albert Richardson, of St. Philomena's Church officiated at the double ring ceremony at which the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lasher, of Cuba, N. Y., became the bride of the son of Mr. George LeClair and the late Rose Alba LeClair of Rochester. The bride, who was escorted to the altar banked by gladiolus and pompoms, by her godfather, wore a ballerina length gown of chantilly lace and tulle over taffeta. The gown featured a Sabrina neckline, fitted bodice and long sleeves ending in a point about her wrists. A lace cap edged in seed pearls and tulle, confined her shoulder length veil of French illusion. A white orchid on a missle, gift of the bridegroom, completed the costume. The bridal entourage included the bridegroom's sister, Mrs. Douglas Santamore, Churubusco as matron of honor. She was dressed in lavender lace and tulle. Her gown also featured a Sabrina neckline and fitted bodice. The accessories were all white and she carried a bouquet of white carnations. Mr. Joseph LeClair, Rochester, acted as best man for his brother. A wedding breakfast for the bridal party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas LeClair and the parents of the bride and groom. A reception for the family and friends was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Santamore. After May 4th the couple will be at home at 632 Averill Ave., Rochester.

1957, November 14 - A birthday party and family reunion was held for Wilford LeClair at the Churubusco Town Hall, November 2nd. Celebrating his 81st birthday Mr. LeClair’s guests included his eleven children and their husbands and wives, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A family dinner was served and Mr. LeClair received many gifts including a lovely birthday cake. Ice cream and cake was served. Pictures were taken by Paul Grover.

1958

1958, January 15 - A|2c Nyle V. LeClair. who had been stationed at Donaldson AFB in S. C. has been transferred to a base in Iceland. He spent a ten day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence LaClair recently. He visited Mr. and Mrs. John Bielas and other relatives in Plattsburgh.

1958, January 15 - Miss Faye LaClair, who attends Business College in Plattsburgh spent her vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence LaClair.

1958, September 4 - A pretty late summer wedding was solemnized at St. Patrick's Church last Saturday morning at 10:00 a. m., when Miss Jo Ellen Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Ryan, Chateaugay, became the bride of Gordon LeClair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy LeClair, of Churubusco. Rev. Donald Gallagher celebrated the nuptial mass and officiated at the double ring ceremony. The traditional wedding music was provided by Mrs. Carol Campbell with Miss Catherine Doige at the organ. Attending the couple were Mrs. Charles Grimshaw, sister of the bride was matron of honor and the best man was Floyd Allen, of Churubusco. Bridesmaids were Mrs. John Matthews and Mrs. Herman LeClair. Ushers were John Matthews and Herman LeClair. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a ballerina length white gown of embroidered lace over net. Her fingertip veil fell from a tiara trimmed with seeded pearls. She carried a colonial bouquet of white carnations. The matron of honor wore a yellow net over satin gown with a corsage of yellow carnations. Mrs. Matthews wore a lavender net gown, with lavender and white accessories and Mrs. Herman LeClair wore a blue net gown with blue and white carnations. For her daughters wedding, Mrs. Ryan chose a blue dress with white accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. The groom's mother wore a flowered white dress and a corsage of white carnations. The altar in the church was decorated with yellow and white gladiolas. Immediately following the ceremony, a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents. A reception in the afternoon was held at the home of the groom's parents and that evening a wedding dance was held in the Churubusco Hall. The new matron attended Chateau gay Central School and was employed at Sears in Malone. Mr. LeClair attended Ellenburg Central School and is working on the Seaway project. For going away, the bride wore a green sheath dress with white accessories. After a short wedding trip they will reside at 7 West Main St. Chateaugay. Out-of-town guests were present from Syracuse, Malone, Plattsburg, and Tupper Lake.

1958, December 10 - Mrs. Amelia Trombly observed her 88th birthday Sunday, November 22nd at the home of her daughter. Mrs. George Miller. She was presented with a lovely birthday cake and many other nice gifts and cards. Refreshments were served. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Poupore, of this place; and Mrs. Edna Leclair, of Ellenburg attended. They are her daughters.

1959

1959, May 7 - Miss Irma LeClair Becomes Bride of Philip A. Soucia. St. Philomena's Church, Churubusco, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Saturday, April 25th at 10 o'clock when Miss Irma Marion LeClair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Israel LeClair, Churubusco, became the bride of Philip A. Soucia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Soucia, Chateaugay. Rev. Albert Richardson officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The bride was charmingly attired in a white satin nylon net wedding gown with pearl trim neckline and long sleeves. A finger tip veil was held in place by a seeded pear) tiara, she carried a white prayer book covered with a corsage of red rose buds and carnations and streamers. Debrah LeClair was train bearer and wore an aqua nylon gown with matching headband and accessories. Little Anna Marie LeClair was flower girl and dressed in nylon pink gown with matching headband and accessories. Both girls were sisters of the bride. Master Steven Magoon cousin of the bride was ring bearer. The maid of honor, Miss Carol Ann Soucia, sister of the groom wore a light blue net and lace over taffeta accessories to match and a bouquet of pink carnations. The bridesmaid, Miss Luva LeClair sister of the bride, was similarly dressed in pink and carried a bouquet of blue carnations. The groom was attended by Howard LeClair, brother of the bride as best man, and Orvell Lavalley as attendant. Ushers were Louis Soucia and Jerry Trombley. The bride's mother wore a pale pink taffeta dress with white accessories and a corsage of white rose buds. The groom's mother chose a light blue lace dress over taffeta with white accessories and a corsage of white rose buds. The altar and church was decorated with vases of white snapdragons and mums and green ferns. After their return from a wedding trip to Montreal they will make their home on the family farm where Mr. Soucia is in partnership with his father. A reception at the Skyliner Restaurant followed the ceremony.

1959, October 29 - Rev. B. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. James Booth and Mr. and Mrs. Ricard Myers, of this place; and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Booth, Malone, were among those attending the Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeClair, which took place at their home in St. Regis Falls, Oct. 11. Mrs. LeClair is a sister of Mrs. James Booth.
